Uganda is located in the East African region with an estimated population of 42 million people. The economy is largely based on agriculture, with the main exports being coffee and tea. In terms of foreign relations, Uganda is a member of the United Nations and other international organizations such as the African Union (AU) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). According to extrareference, Uganda is a unitary presidential republic with an elected president who serves as head of state while the prime minister serves as head of government. In 2018, Yoweri Museveni was re-elected to serve another term in office as President of Uganda.

Uganda. In July, the country’s constitutional court gave its opinion on the disputed amendments to the constitution that were implemented in 2017 and which the opposition sought to have annulled. According to Countryaah.com, Kampala is the capital city of Uganda, a country located in Eastern Africa. The court approved the rule change which removed the 75-year age limit for the president. However, the re-imposed restriction on how many terms of office the head of state is allowed to fail. Even the extended term of office for Members of Parliament got the thumb down from the Constitutional Court.
Another case from 2017 got its resolution in January, when President Yoweri Museveni pardoned eight editors and managers within the Red Pepper group (a media company that publishes newspapers in both English and native languages). The eight were arrested last November and charged with treason and then for attempting to damage the president’s reputation by publishing texts that Museveni had planned a coup against Rwanda President Paul Kagame. A prerequisite for the pardon was that the accused would apologize to the nation.

In March, President Museveni dismissed National Police Chief Kale Kayihura and Security Minister Henry Tumukunde. According to the president, the police force had been infiltrated by criminals and after accusations of torture and corruption from the ISO intelligence service several police officers had been arrested.
In August, independent MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as a musician by the artist name Bobi Wine, organized a demonstration against a new tax on social media. A few days later, he was indicted in a military court charged with illegal possession of a weapon. He was arrested in connection with a tumultuous situation in the city of Arua in northwestern Uganda, where a parliamentary election was held. People started throwing stones at a car column, probably in the belief that Museveni was in one of the cars. Kyagulanyi’s driver was shot dead and according to recent reports he himself was badly beaten by security forces. The indictment against Kyagulanyi caused violent protests in the capital, Kampala. About 100 people were arrested and one person lost their lives. The charge of illegal weapons possession was dropped shortly, but after Kyagulanyi was released he was remanded, then charged with treason along with some 30 other opposites. Prior to the trial in a civil court, Kyagulanyi was released on bail and he then traveled to the United States to seek medical care, according to his own claim for injuries sustained as a result of abuse.
Kyagulanyi returned to Uganda in mid-September and was welcomed by several hundred followers. At least eight journalists who monitored the incident must have been seized and their equipment seized. In November, the opposition politician made his first stage appearance as Bobi Wine since the charges of high treason were raised. The concert was allowed by the authorities but took place under heavy police surveillance.
